Board of Directors

Neah Power Systems’ Board of Directors includes business leaders and executives with expertise in the industry and proven track records in guiding early-stage companies to successful commercialization.


Dr. Chris D’Couto, President and Chief Executive Officer
Chris heads all of Neah's operations, including engineering, marketing, and business development. He brings more than a decade in thin films processing and semiconductor technology expertise, proven track record in sales and marketing, and product introduction experience including serving as senior director of marketing at FormFactor Inc., where he headed the launch of full wafer probe cards for NAND flash and DRAM. Before FormFactor, Chris had a nine-year tenure at Novellus Systems, Inc., with positions of increasing responsibility ranging from product management to technology development and sales. Some of his roles at Novellus Systems include the launch of some of the PVD products and an ALD system for tungsten deposition, Sales Account Management and core technology development. Prior to that, Chris had worked at Varian Associates and as a consultant to Intel Corporation.

He has a B.Tech. (Honors) in chemical engineering from the Coimbatore Institute of Technology in India, Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Clarkson University, NY., and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.


Leroy Ohlsen, Co-Founder and Director
Leroy co-founded Neah Power Systems in 1999 to follow his passion for fuel cell technology developed during undergraduate studies. Previously, he worked as a Project Manager for MultiChem Analytical Services, an environmental testing laboratory. Mr. Ohlsen worked part-time throughout college at MDS Panlabs as part of the chemistry team. Leroy received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Washington in 1998.


Michael F. Solomon, Director
Mr. Solomon is a Partner of Tax Group at Fenwick West LLP. Mr. Solomon brings more than 30 years of experience in tax planning and associated business structuring. He has also handled significant controversy and litigation matters in judicial and administrative forums at the state and federal levels.

Mr. Solomon is extensively involved in many types of issues concerning international businesses, both foreign and U.S. controlled. He has a broad range of domestic tax experience, including corporate acquisition and structuring issues, tax accounting and capitalization issues, joint ventures, research tax credit problems, and tax-attribute planning. His international tax experience has been equally broad, including matters pertaining to intercompany transfer pricing, foreign tax credits, subpart F income, treaties, tax-favorable foreign corporate structures and financing techniques, foreign acquisitions and restructurings, sourcing, intellectual property planning and tax accounting solutions arising out of the foreign operations of U.S. based multinationals.

Michael teaches Venture Technology tax law as an Adjunct Professor at Boalt Hall Law School, at the University of California at Berkeley. Previously, he was an Adjunct Professor in the LLM program at Georgetown University Law School teaching Income Tax Accounting. He has also served as an expert witness in corporate transaction matters that are in controversy. Prior to joining Fenwick & West, Michael was a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, and previously was a partner in the PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP Washington National Tax Services office and a former managing partner with the tax law firm of Ivins, Phillips, and Barker.

He is an honors graduate of both Yale University (1974) and Harvard Law School (1977).


James H. Smith, Director

James H. Smith joins the Company's Board with 40 years of diversified management experience with semiconductors manufacturing companies, complex distribution companies, and software start-ups. Smith is Director of Unisone Inc a patent software company using the Internet. Prior experience includes President and CEO /Director of Nexion, Inc., Co-Founder and COO/Director of Decision Dynamix Inc., President/Officer of McKesson Corporation, the world's largest pharmaceutical wholesaler, and Executive Vice President/Officer of Avnet Inc world's largest electronic component and system distributor.

Jon Garfield, Director

Jon Garfield joins the Neah Power Board with operational, finance and accounting experience. Mr. Garfield is currently the CEO and member of the Board of Directors of technology company Clearant, Inc. (OTCBB: CLRA). Prior experience includes CFO at Clearant, independent financial consultant for SEC reporting obligations and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, CFO for a telecom service provider, Vice President of Acquisitions for Coach USA, Inc., Corporate Assistant Controller of Maxxim Medical, Inc., and public accounting experience with Arthur Andersen and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Garfield received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from University of Texas, Austin.

Robert J. McGovern, Director

Robert J. McGovern joins Neah's Board with operating, strategic development and financial experience with global businesses. Mr. McGovern is General Manager of The Cura Group and most recently President of Horton Automatics. Prior Experience includes CEO/President of Tona Stanley in Czech Republic holding prior positions of VP Business Development/Tools and a Corporate Director of Manufacturing Technology for the Stanley Works. Mr. McGovern received his MBA - Finance from The Keller Institute, Chicago, Illinois, and his BS at SUNY in Brockport/ Buffalo, NY graduating cum laude.
